Lesley Vainikolo: 'I've got previous...'

England star Lesley Vainikolo was arrested on Sunday following an alleged assault in Bath that left a man with “life-threatening” head injuries.

The ‘Volcano’ was questioned by police after a fight erupted outside Po Na Na nightclub where the 17stone monster was rumoured to be drinking with friends.

Eye-witnesses claim the victim was knocked down by one single punch before being rushed to the Royal United hospital in Bath.

Bar owner Brett Salako said: "There were smashed beer bottles and glasses on the pavement and in the road.

"It must have been a massive punch-up because there was blood on the floor and it took three of our staff to sweep up the glass from outside.”

The victim regained consciousness on Monday before returning home.

A police spokesperson has said: "A man in his 20s has been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries."

Sebastien Chabal: 'Think of all the attention i'll get'

Sebastien Chabal has admitted personal reasons could see the back-row beast quit Sale for his native France at the end of the season.

Thousands of kitchen dishes let alone women's hearts have undoubtedly been broken as news filtered through of the cult hero's unfortunate circumstances on local radio stations.

His contract isn't due to run out until 2011 but in a conversation prompted by coach Philippe Saint-Andre, Chabal is seeking a solution to his constant to-ing and fro-ing  across the English channel to see his family.

Danny Cipriani: 'Don't look at me?'

A sixth defeat in eight this season, conceding six tries for the first time since well.... Danny Cipriani was wearing huggies, and roaming around the paddock like a bunch of clueless sheep - has the time set on London Wasps days in the sun?

Who is going to pull them out of the black hole? What must Fraser and Lol make of the sudden demise?

The junior pretenders to Dallaglio's throne, Messrs Rees, Haskell and Cipriani, are carrying a blunt batton with the spark unexpectedly perishing sooner than we thought.

The line of communication from top to bottom seems to be just as blurred off the pitch too.

Chief Executive,Tony Copsey's parading of Cipriani like a billboard for Leinster's showpiece return at Twickenham shows the man at the head of the table is also believing in the hype.

It really got up Shaun Edwards' nose, who has been pushed to the limit aiming to keep 'Cipriani the celebrity' away from the training field. Oh, and with a little help from Josh Lewsey too.

Too many of their nine England Elite squad members are playing well below those champion standards etched inside the walls of Wasps' Acton base camp.

Haskell is suffering from post-summer tour syndrome, Phil Vickery is getting bullied by newer kids on the block and Lewsey has clearly been taking advice from England and Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

Ian McGeechan and Edwards have got a job on their hands and that's without talk of Lions, Dragons and South Africa.

Euan Murray:'Na-wee pal, i'm sticking right here'

The IRB has given Frank Hadden reason to be cheerful by announcing a compromise ruling that allows the Scotland coach access to the English-based players from October 27.

On the flipside, the players must return to their clubs within three days if required for weekend games.

The EDF Energy Cup final round-robin games on November 1-2 could provide the biggest headache with the Guinness Premiership clubs already shorn of their English internationals due to the agreement with Premier Rugby.

Scotland host the All-Blacks seven days later and the prospect of injuries, niggles and recovery-time is hardly ideal preparation for the world's best.

Brent Russell: His mum must be so proud...

Brent Russell has signed for French side Clermont Auvergne. The 28-year-old signed for Saracens last season but a shoulder injury in pre-season has ruled him out of the first few weeks of the new campaign.

"Brent is at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular first team rugby and we are unable to offer that at this time," explained Saracens Director of Rugby Eddie Jones.

Speaking about the move, Russell explained: "The offer from Clermont came out of left field and was totally unexpected. I had high expectations for my season here at Saracens - especially after some good pre-season training - and I was looking forward to playing some great rugby when I damaged ligaments in my right shoulder.

"However, the life of a professional sportsman is all about taking one's opportunities and the offer from Clermont is a good one. I am really looking forward to getting involved in the French style of play and feel that playing in France will suit my game. I am looking forward to the challenge."
