James Forrester: "I had no option"

Gifted Gloucester back-row James Forrester has been forced to retire from rugby aged just 27 after failing to recover from a horrific knee injury he suffered against Bristol in April 2007.

"Naturally, I am devastated my career has ended in this way but I have poured every ounce of effort into getting back to fitness for more than 16 months but I now know it's not going to be enough." Forrester told www.gloucesterrugby.co.uk

Gloucester boss Dean Ryan added: "When any player's career is cut short through injury it is a tragic waste but even more so in James's case because he was such a prodigious talent."

Josh Lewsey: 'This guy will never be as big as me'

Josh Lewsey must be getting upset by all this attention Mr. Cipriani is receiving. Reports this morning filtering out of Wasps' Acton training ground suggests the England pair exchanged blows during a contact drill when Cipriani told Lewsey to "shut up or get shut up."

The club has been quick to pour cold water on the incident and the pairs relationship, putting it down to mere testosterone and the physicality that is part and parcel of the game.

How Lewsey can criticise Cipriani for missed tackles we do not know? How many blunders has it been this year Josh? At least two wins worth! Maybe all this talk of Danny playing full-back is touching a nerve.

Putting a positive spin on it... Kelly's kisses should do the trick.

Who wants a prop and a second-row?

Northampton Saints have signed two South African forwards - Juandre Kruger and Regardt Dreyer.

Giant specimen, Kruger, a 23-year-old 6'6" lock, joins from the Blue Bulls while 6" 3" Dreyer, a 25-year-old loosehead prop, signs from Griquas.

"The Currie Cup is an excellent proving ground for forwards," said Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder. "It is a tough competition in which Juandre and Regardt have shown themselves to be two promising young players

Both will arrive at Franklin's Gardens at the end of their Currie Cup commitments.

Will Skinner: 'I only work out on my left thigh...'

Worcester 23-30 Harlequins

Cecil Duckworth's just popped up on my screen getting the key to Worcester

What? Every door in the city...

No, for his amazing feat with the rugby club and as Mr. Bosch

The rugby club didn't do too well last night...

Ugo Monye is really pushing his England claims with another electric performance on the flank. He kicked off a six minute scoring blitz during which Harlequins sailed over for three unanswered tries with Gonzalo Tiesi and Mike Brown also going over.

Was it all one way traffic?

Monye's second was sandwiched between Matthew Jones soft score and prodious young England wing Miles Benjamin's first of the season but despite exchanging three pointers, the Warriors remained a score adrift.

Sounds pretty exciting?

It was. The only downside being the latest injury in the long running saga of.... DAVID STRETTLE'S FLIMSY FOOT... Poor bloke

Danny Cipriani: 'Kelly, I told you to stay at home'

Bristol 16-23 Saracens
Leicester 29-19 Northampton
London Irish 26-3 Sale Sharks
Wasps 23-27 Bath

Talk about stealing the limelight...

Who?

Danny Cipriani. How could he do that to Jonny?

He’s been doing it all year.

Yeah but not when Jonny gets injured. That's his bread and butter. How else is he going to afford those medical bills?

I'm sure the RFU will help. Or Hackett, or Adidas. He's got bags of cash anyway....

Didn’t SKY, the BBC and ITV send all their camera crews down to Adams Park?

Cipriani got a little stage fright but settled back into his groove with a 51-minute cameo... Not that it helped

Did Bath spoil his comeback?

Cipriani made a hash of a high-ball for Michael Claasens' first score while Matt Stevens brought the brunt up front epitomising a thuggish Bath performance. In form Nick Abendanon full-back did his utmost to further impress England coach Brian Smith with an acute line to set up Joe Maddock for the game clincher leaving Cipriani with an 80% kicking success but no dream return.

Steve Meehan must be dead-chuffed to be back on top. What about the chasing pack?

London Irish ended Sale's unbeaten record, breaching the previously impenetrable line on four occasions. Peter Hewat directed operations shrewdly while England U20 prop Alex Corbisiero, who scored his second try of the season, put in a stellar shift at prop overshadowing senior statesman Andrew Sheridan with an athletic display.

Did the Tigers recover from their defeat to Wasps?

Leicester's forward power reaped reward as Northampton blew a half-time lead for the third time in succession. Late tries from Toby Flood (19 points) and Dan Hipkiss did the business for the tenacious hosts who had the bit between their teeth.

Speaking of teeth, did Bristol find some?

Richard Hill can't wait for the six week break from the Guinness Premiership. An 11th consecutive defeat compiled by Glen Jackson's boot and Kameli Ratuvou's barnstorming running secured a third straight win for Eddie Jones' Saracens. Oh and Adrian Jarvis' less than reliable boot.
