Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe: They're greeeeaaaat!

Who'd have thunk it, eh? One game could play such a crucial role for the next three years. Thanks to the IRB and their somewhat confusing qualification points system, Argentina's visit to Ireland might as well be a World Cup Final.

Ireland must win to secure their place in the second tier and have recalled Geordan 'maverick' Murphy at full-back and Jerry 'pit-bull' Flannery at hooker to bolster their chances.

Argentina need a win to guarantee a seedings spot and despite stuttered progression since Marcelo Loffreda's exit, Santiago Phelan's merry men are just 80 minutes away from avoiding the southern hemisphere triumverate in 2011.

Phelan has been forced into a number of changes, most notably at inside centre, where captain and local-boy, Felipe Contepomi misses out. Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe takes over as skipper while Juan Manuel Leguizamon comes in at number eight.

Ireland haven't beaten the Pumas since 2004 but if there was a moment to end their drought (and that goes for crossing the try-line too) this wouldn't be an awful occasion.

Ireland: 15 Geordan Murphy, 14 Tommy Bowe, 13 Brian O'Driscoll (c), 12 Luke Fitzgerald, 11 Robert Kearney, 10 Ronan O'Gara, 9 Tomas O'Leary, 8 Jamie Heaslip, 7 David Wallace, 6 Stephen Ferris, 5 Paul O'Connell, 4 Donncha O'Callaghan, 3 John Hayes, 2 Jerry Flannery, 1 Marcus Horan.
Replacements: 16 Rory Best, 17 Tony Buckley, 18 Malcolm O'Kelly, 19 A.N. Other, 20 Eoin Reddan, 21 Paddy Wallace, 22 Keith Earls.

Rodrigo Roncero: 'It wasn't me?'

Dax winger Lucas Borges has withdrawn from Argentina's squad for November's international series.

Pucara's Mauro Comuzzi has been called up as a replacement while Clermont Auvergne's Alejandro Campos completes the touring party.

It's been a bad week for Argentina boss Santiago Phelan with the news that star prop Rodrigo Roncero could miss the autumn internationals after being cited in Stade Francais' defeat by Toulouse.

Felipe Contepomi: '...Don't cry for me Argentina...'

Can you believe it’s almost a year to the day that Felipe Contepomi kicked Argentina into a record-breaking World Cup semi-final? Well 2007 was a great year all round for the Pumas star, realising another life’s ambition by becoming a doctor. Speaking as an ambassador for Rugby Expo, Dr. Phl became ScrumoftheEarth’s latest patient…

Felipe Contepomi: 'Throw me a bone man...'

If you asked every professional rugby player who they'd like to kick-off their pre-season campaign against, world champions, South Africa would probably be near the bottom of the list.

But the Pumas have had to suck it up and will travel to Coca-Cola Park AKA Ellis Park, Johannesburg as part of Nelson Mandela's birthday celebrations.

Santiago Phelan makes six changes from the side that lost of Italy with Felipe Contepomi returning as skipper at fly-half.

French pair, Patricio Albacete and Alvarez Kairelis form a new second-row pairing while familiar faces Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Rodrigo Roncero and Mario Ledesma all start.

Argentina: 15 Bernardo Stortoni, 14 José María Núñez Piossek, 13 Federico Martín Aramburu, 12 Miguel Avramovic, 11 Horacio Agulla, 10 Felipe Contepomi (c), 9 Nicolás Vergallo, 8 Juan Manuel Leguizamón, 7 Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe, 6 Martín Durand, 5 Patricio Albacete, 4 Rimas Álvarez Kairelis, 3 Pedro Ledesma, 2 Mario Ledesma, 1 Rodrigo Roncero.

Replacements: 16 Alberto Vernet Basualdo, 17 Marcos Ayerza, 18 Esteban Lozada, 19 Álvaro Galindo, 20 Alfredo Lalanne, 21 Benjamín Urdapilleta
22 Rafael Carballo.

Mandela will be treated to some Tango...

Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration fixture between Argentina and South Africa has more than the odd sub-plot.

As the Pumas endeavour to force their way into the Tri-Nations, the high profile clash will go along way to proving whether Santiago Phelan's side have the calibre to match the southern hemisphere giants.

Juan Martin Hernandez, Gonzalo Tiesi and Tomas de Vedia are unavailable and they are currently in off-season, so a titanic battle against the world champions is far from ideal, especially with the majority currently enjoying the sunshine.

Argentina squad:

Forwards: Horacio Agulla, Patricio Albacete, Rimas Alvarez, Miguel Avramovic, Lucas Borges, Rafael Carballo, Manuel Carizza, Felipe Contepomi, Martin Durand, Juan Fernandez Lobbe, Alvaro Galindo, Juan Francisco Gomez, Pablo Henn.

Backs: Alfredo Lalanne, Pedro Ledesma, Mario Ledesma, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Esteban Lozada, Federico Martin Aramburu, Jose Nez Piossek, Rodrigo Roncero, Hernan Senillosa, Bernardo Stortoni, Benjamín Urdapilleta, Nicolas Vergallo, Alberto Vernet Basualdo.
