Mark Gasnier: From the top of the Eiffel Tower...

Results:

Bourgoin 25-32 Stade Français
Clermont Auvergne 32-6 Biarritz
Montauban 24-23 Castres
Mont-de-Marsan 16-22 Montpellier
Brive 41-9 Dax
Toulouse 30-20 Perpignan
Bayonne 19-15 Toulon

So they're not best pleased in France with these ELVs either?

At least Top 14's finest are scoring tries though...

Lots of points this weekend then?

Only Dax and Toulon failed to cross the whitewash as Andy Goode finally announced himself to the Brive faithful with a vinage 19-point show.

Who scored more than I did Saturday night?

Clermont Auvergne are back-in-business in ruthless fashion thrashing a poor Biarritz side with Napolioni Nalaga and Anthony Flosch tries sealing a bonus-point.

Les Januards edging closer to the top...

Stade Francais streched their lead to six points despite only scoring two tries with debutant Mark Gasnier scoring and the impeccable boot's of Beauxis and Hernandez stearing them to victory.

With Perpignan losing, who's now in second spot?

Bayonne's flawless home-form continues with Cedric Garcia's solitary try enough to mute Toulon. Dan Carter might've been in London but his new employers struggled against Toulouse's all-action display with Byron Kellher fizzing around the fringes and centre pairing, Yannick Jauzion and Florian Fritz running and off-loading all match.

Any dramas like a punch-up or a derisory moustache?

Anthony Lagardere was hanging his head in shame after missing a last-minute conversion for Castres but nothing as serious as an out-of-place strand of hair.

Mont-de-Marsan v Montpellier
Montauban v Castres
Brive v Dax
Toulouse v Perpignan
Bayonne v Toulon
Fantastic trip down to the South of France this week...

Did you join the hoards at Perpignan for the arrival of Sir Daniel Carter?

C'est magnifique! 3,000 people but shame about the spread... Chocolate prawns weren't my cup of tea...

I wouldn't dunk them in my brew!

Another of those Kiwis, Byron Kelleher, fully deserved his Top 14 Player of the Year award. no?..

Absolutely and he'll get to celebrate it in style if Perpignan continue their dreadful record on Toulouse soil - 27 years without even a sniff of a victory.

Not such luck for some other Antipodeans I see......

Yeah it was a shame about Hayley Westerna slipping on stage.

No I meant Tana and Sonny...

Both have been dominating the headlines for one reason or another and the Roman Abromovich show starring their ego-obsessed chairman clearly doesn't care for reputations or an ugly face come to think of it.

Neither do Dax in recent weeks...

Nippy full-back Alexis Palisson, who enjoyed a word or two with Lote Tuqiri this summer, is back for Brive, who host Dax where rare bonuses have been coming thick and fast after two dizzy wins on the bounce..

One club clearly not operating on a bonus budget are Montauban.

The credit crunch is feasting its way down the West coast of France and Lionel Nallet's presence in the Castres side isn't likely to encourage freebies either.

Where's le crunch this weekend?

In Clermont with Biarritz's record on the road rivaling my driving license. Plenty of points but far to many blemishes.

Can't look past the table toppers surely?

Juan Martin Hernandez and Lionel Beauxis are set to swap positions again while league import Mark Gasnier may also figure.

And who said the French don't work?

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Juan Martin Hernandez: Better than Diego? You decide...

What's a brand of wax doing in the Top 14?

Some bloke called Nanuku caused a massive upset with his slick running to down Biarritz

Another local derby went the way of the under-dog I see...

Tell me about it. Castres beating Clermont. Last year's finalists are like a yo-yo and the bogey boys came back to haunt them once again...

What shirt was it this time - pink, blue, grren - any flowers?

Pastel blue with pink floral trim and Juan Martin Hernandez sported it best with two tries from his second-favourite full-back position. He's just that good...

And one of their former pretty boys did his bit for Toulouse...

Fly-half David Skrela scored 14 points while wingers Yves Donguy and Maxime Medard grabbed one apiece

And the glamour boys - not to be confused with those lady boys?

Rather than mass brawls it was champagne cocktails and caviar as Big Joe van Niekerk came good at the death for Toulon.

So Stade Francais are sitting pretty at the top, can anyone catch them?

Perpignan are doing their best with another away win but our pre-season tip are sizzling like a tasty French sausage... Speaking of which grub's up so au-revoir!

Results:

Dax 30-18 Biarritz
Castres 12-6 Clermont Auvergne
Bayonne 19-15 Mont-de-Marsan
Toulon 15-9 Bourgoin
Stade Français 37-16 Brive
Montauban 10-41 Toulouse
Montpellier 3-5 Perpignan

Francois Trinh-Duc: Le Montpellier Master...

Tried chatting to my French friend on Facebook last night - ruddy hard!

Pourquoi?

He was confusing me with all his pluperfects, present and past tenses...

Imbécile
! Are Stade going to make it six from six then?

Probably! Mark Gansier has to wait another week to don the hawain shirt while Juan Martin Hernandez looks like switching to full-back for the game against Brive who must be begging for a home run.

What news of another big-name signing Joe Van Niekerk?

The big South African makes his debut for Toulon where anything but a win against  Bourgoin for Tana Umaga would surely put another hefty nail in his coffin.

Speaking of death... any danger of Castres being ressusitated?

Not at home to Clermont Auvergne although they might be helped with doubts over star centre pairing Gonzalo Canale and Marius Joubert.

And the big game of the weekend?

Perpignan head to Montpellier, avec Francois Trinh-Duc in fine fettle, punching well above their weight, Les Heraults will hope to add another heavyweight to their growing list of scalps.

Friday, September 19
Dax v Biarritz

Saturday, September 20

Castres v Clermont
Bayonne v Mont-de-Marsan
Stade Français v Brive
Montauban v Toulouse
Montpellier v Perpignan
