One of the greatest modern-day rugby icons picks his favourite Hookers.

There has never been a more recognisable hooker in the game. Nicknamed 'Uncle Fester' after the Addams Family character for his bald shiny head, his dynamism, whether carrying the ball or with those audacious chip and chases, made him an icon of the modern game.

Keith Wood's light-hearted manner won him many friends during spells with Garryowen, Harlequins and Munster, but the trio of British & Irish Lions tours, especially the 1997 2-1 triumph in South Africa, etched Wood into rugby's folklore with his talismanic qualities never more apparent as one of Martin Johnson's unofficial lieutenants.

Wood went onto captain Ireland 33 times, scoring a world record 15 Test tries, including four against USA in 1999. In 2001, he became the inaugural winner of the IRB World Player of the Year award. He is now an unofficial ambassador for Six Nations' sponsors RBS.

"It was like getting into something full of barbed wire… just horrible! "
